Prawn Culture

Prawn Culture is done widely and extensively at Fakirhat, Mollahat, Chitalmari upzila, and at some other places of Bagarhet Sadar. Generally two species of prawn are cultured. Lobsters are cultured in fresh water and prawns are cultured in saline water. The water body where crayfishes and crawfishes are cultured is locally called ‘Gher (hatchery)’. There are thousands of hatcheries in the area where prawns and lobsters are cultivated. We have goodwill abroad for the lobster of our country. Every year Bangladesh earns a lot of foreign currency by exporting lobsters. Tourists may visit the areas to see the culture of prawn and to take taste of prawn.
