Bibir Pukur (Pond)

Bibir Pukur situated in Barisal town is the silent evidence of many historical events. In the first half the 16th century Christian Missionaries arrived in Barisal. English merchant William Cany rescued Jinath Bibi a Muslim girl from the Portugues robbers and brought her up. Later Jinath Bibi in 1908 had the pond dug to relieve the local people of sufferings from the shortage of water. At present the pond is known as Bibir Pukur. Now the Barisal city corporation has taken steps to beautify it. As a result, it has been more attractive than before. The lovers of beauty and attraction come to visit it every morning and evening.
