Baisabi, Sangri, Bizu

On the occasion of Bangla New Year and the last day of the month of Chaitra (a Bangla month), the biggest religious, social and traditional festival ‘Baisabi’ of the tribals of the three hilly districts –Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari is held in a festive and delightful atmosphere. Though the Tripurians call it ‘Baisuk’, Marma call it ‘Sangri’ and the Chakmas call it ‘Bizu’ yet it is called ‘Baisabi’ in the whole of hilly area. ‘Baisabi’ has been formed with the initial letters of ‘Baisuk’ ‘Sangri’, ‘Bizu’. The New Year’s Day Festival is observed for three days which includes the last two days of the immediate pat year and the first day of the New Year.
