Madhu Palli and Madhu Mela

Madhu Palli was founded centering on the family abode of great poet Michael Modhusudan at Sagardari in Keshabpur upazila. Michael Modhusudan Dutta was born on January 25, 1824 at this house. Though his descendants were the inhabitants of Khulna districts, subsequently they bought estates as a Zamindar at Sagardari and set up a few magnificent mansions and temples. Centering on the house of Modhusudan, Dak Bangalow of Zilla Parishad, Sagardari Tourism Centre and Modhusudan Museum have grown up here. The poet’s memory-laden nut trees Bidai Ghat (Fairwell wharf) on the bank of the Kobadak River attract especially tourists. The poet died 1875 AD in Kolkata. But every year centering on the birth anniversary of the poet, a big Mela (fair) is held.
