Poet Jibanananda Das’ Paternal Homestead and Dhansiri River

The paternal homestead of Jibanananda, one of the greatest poets in the realm of poetry, lies at Bamankathi in Rajapur upazila of Jhalokati district. The Dhansiri River that the poet referred to in his poems is here. Though the existence of the house is no more now, yet the homestead still survives. And the meandrous Dhansiri River which is prone to the high tide and the low tide still flows in a narrow stream. Enchanted and captivated by the beauty of the Dhansiri River, Poet Jibanananda Das wrote ‘Abar asibo firey Dhansiritir tirey (Return again to bank of the river Dhansiri).’  Tourists may come here and can see the poet’s favorite river.
