Poet Kamini Roy’s House

Kamini Roy is the first graduate poetess in this sub-continent. She was born in 1864 at Basonda village of Jhalakati district. Her father Chandi Charan Sen was a writer of historical novels. Jamini Roy the other sister of the poetess was the first Bangla FRCS doctor. The poetess has a famous poem- ‘Pachhe Loke Kichhu Bole’ besides these, her notable publications are book of verse Alo O Chhaya (1889), Pouraniki (1897), children poems: Gunjan (1905). Once there were four buildings in their house, which are extinct now. Some portions of these buildings still survive. Besides, they had a paved landing staincase. She died in 1993, and the other members of the family left the country after the partition in 1948. On the entrance gate of the house, there are rows of fruit trees and the walkway is made of bricks and brick-dust in geometric designs.
