Paternal House of Ila Mitra

Prominant politician and communist leader Ila Mitra was born in Kolkata on 18th October 1925. Her father Nagendranath Sarker was Deputy Accountant General of undivided Bengal and they lived in Kolkata. Her father hailed from Bagutia of the then Jessore district. Because of her father’s job, they all lived in Kolkata. After marriage Ila Mitra came to Ramchndrapur of Chapai Nawabganj district. Later on, she settled in Kolkata and died on 13th October 2002 there. She played key role in organizing the ‘Nachole Uprising’ to establish right of the farmers for two thirds of shares on harvest during the period between 1946 and 1950. Her paternal house exists now in dilapidated condition at Bagutia.
