Saudagar’s Dighi (Pond)

This Dighi was excavated on 12 acres of land on the Barobazar-Satgachia road. Almost adjacent to the pond on the north, there was a vast empty space where a cattle market used to take place. Hearsay goes that Chand Saudagar the protagonist in the folktale of Chand Saudagar and Manasa Devi had this pond excavated. In some others’ opinion, this big water body was excavated during the Muslim Period to facilitate water supply to the Shahi Mahal (Royal House). According to another view, it is an ancient water body which was excavated in the Hindu-Buddhist Period.
