Pyari Sundari’s House

The homestead of Pyari Sundari, an ever-rememberable character against indigo movement is located at Sadarpur of Mirpur Upazila. She was the youngest daughter of Zamindar Ramnanda Singh of Sadarpur at Mirpur upazila under Nadia district in undivided Bengal. Her struggle along with the common people and the fighters with sticks against the oppressive indigo planters was like a legend. Pyari Sundari stood against the oppression of her rival Thomas Ivan Kani, an indigo planter. Kani’s Kachhary was in the Beki Dalan. The period of fight between indigo planter Kani and the Zamindar’s daughter Pyari Sundari was from 1859-1860. In continuation of the struggle or fight, the English people stood back from the policy that compelled the peasants to cultivate indigo instead of cultivating paddy. At present no trace of the house of Pyari Sundari is found except three small dighis.
