Nengta Baba’s Ashram (Hermitage)

Nengta Baba’s Ashram (Hermitage of naked fathery person) is located on the bank of the Nabaganga River to the east of Magura town. Hearsay goes on that some day in the past; a naked votary appeared on the bordering area of the land of cremation ground surrounded by thickets. The name of that lifelong celibate was Jitendranath Chakraborty. It is learnt from a source that he was born in 1295 Bengali year (1888) at Bhabanipur village in Narail district. His father was Benimadhab Chakraborty and his mother was Purna Sundari Devi. This handsome person with beautiful golden hair led the whole life without clothes. Many of those who saw him from close proximity told others that he did not expressed anything in language. The devotees understood him through his gestures and postures. Fatik Chandra Das father of the present Sebait (religious caretaker) of the Ashram Dhirandranath donated 0.86 acres of land to the Nengta Baba’s hermitage. This Nengta Baba alias Jitendranath Chakraborty died in 1370 Bengali year (1963) while he was in a sitting posture on his seat. Many devotees gather here on different festive occasions of the primeval Hindu religion.
