S M Sultan Complex

World-acclaimed painter SM Sultan was born at village Masimdia of Narail District Sadar. Without any institutional degree/ education, he earned international reputation in paintings. His paintings are displayed individually and jointly in the United Kingdom (UK), the United States of America (USA), France, Pakistan and other countries including India. While in the last stage of life, he came back to Narail and founded an art school named Shishu Shwargo (Children Paradise) with birds, trees, plants and children. He built a big barge and stayed there. But at times he went on a pleasure boat trip with the children. The Sultan Complex has grown here. Rare photos of Sultan and Nakshi Kanthas (embroidered quilt) of hundred years old are found to see in the art gallery of the Sultan Complex. And on the north bank of the pond, remain large portraits of world-acclaimed painter SM Sultan, world famous poet Rabindranath Tagore and rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. The barge of the Children Paradise still survives. Every year Sultan fair is organised at the Sultan Complex in commemoration of painter SM Sultan. The eminent and the distinguished writers, painters and the lovers of literature of the country participate in the fair which is held for four days.
